The joy of colors in Holi may be wreaked by Corona, as people are trying to stay away from public Holi gatherings, but no one is behind in enjoying the taste of delicious dishes and sweets.

There is no decrease in the sale of sweets
Firoz H. Naqvi, Director, Federation of Sweets and Namkeen Manufacturers told IANS that this time in Holi, chocolate gujiya has become a special choice of children and youth. He said that Holi had some effect due to the re-increasing outbreak of Corona in the country, but there has been no decrease in the sale of sweets. Naqvi said that if there was no shadow of Corona’s havoc, there would have been a record sale of sweets on Holi this year. He said that the sale of Gujiya is highest on Holi and Gujiya accounts for more than 50 per cent of the total sale of sweets. Naqvi said that on Holi, the business of sweets and namkeens is around Rs 8,000 to 10,000 crore across the country. In this, about 10 to 15 percent share is of Thandai. He told that during the Corona period, the merchants of sweets and namkeens expanded their capacity as well as experimented with new ones.

At the same time, Haldiram has used cranberry in Kesar Gujiya which is a popular superfood. Ankit Chawla, Senior Manager, Haldiram Products (R&D), said that there is a lot of demand for this Gujiya. He said that there has been an increase in online purchase of packaged sweets and namkeen during the Corona period and their sales have increased in Holi this year as compared to last year. Haldiram’s has launched a special product ‘Baked Spanish Corn’ this year.

At the same time, Manish Aggarwal, director of Bikano, another brand of namkeen, also told that the demand for packaged items has increased during the Corona period. Gujiya of Bhanrilal Mithaiwala of Indore, Madhya Pradesh is very popular. Anil Saini of this establishment said that despite the ban regarding corona in major cities like Indore and Bhopal of Madhya Pradesh, there is no effect on their sales. He told that those who had to buy Holi sweets have already bought them till Saturday.
