Siddharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani’s film ‘Sher Shah’ has been released on the digital platform today i.e. on August 12. The film is based on the life of Captain Vikram Batra. Sidharth Malhotra played the role of Captain Vikram Batra in the film. Vikram Batra was instrumental in winning the most important 5 points in the Kargil war. Vikram Batra was martyred at the age of 24 while trying to save his companion.
Who was Vikram Batra?
After this, Captain Batra launched a direct attack on the enemy with his detachment. He took the front and bravely cleared the dust of Pakistani infiltrators. On 20 June 1999, at three o’clock in the morning, Captain Batra hoisted the Indian tricolor defeating Pakistan at this post. Point 5140 was a very important strategic point along the way of the battle, as it came to an altitude and a steep climb. Pakistani intruders hiding there were throwing bullets and stones at Indian soldiers from a height. After winning this post, Captain Batra was about to win another important point 4875. This bunker was at an altitude of 17,000 feet above sea level. Captain Vikram Batra, after unfurling the Indian flag at Point 5140 at 3:30 a.m. on June 20, 1999, said in a radio message “Yeh Dil Maange More.” This punchline became popular throughout the country as well as in the Indian Army. The mission was scheduled to be completed on 7 July 1999. At this time, Lieutenant Naveen was badly injured in an explosion during the war. Defending his fellow officer, the captain said, “Get out of here, you have a wife and kids.”
Captain Batra was on his way back to rescue Lieutenant Naveen, when he was shot in the chest by the enemy and went to heaven while chanting ‘Jai Mata Di’. The courageous act of Captain Vikram Batra was enough to disintegrate the Pakistani army. Captain Batra’s Delta Company destroyed enemy positions at bunkers 4750 and 4875.
Let us tell you that the Pakistani army was also aware of the adventure of Vikram Batra. The Pakistani army also used the codename ‘Sher Shah’ for this grandson of India. Regarding his son, Captain’s father GL Batra said that Commanding Officer Lt Col YK Joshi named his son Sher Shah. Apart from Sher Shah, he was also known as ‘Lion of Kargil’. Captain Batra always used to say that I will come with the tricolor on the high post or I will come wrapped in the tricolour, but I will definitely come. On 15 August 1999, Vikram Batra was awarded the Param Vir Chakra posthumously by the Government of India.
Captain Batra’s twin brother Vishal Batra said he got the news of his brother’s sacrifice when he was in Delhi. His elder sister was in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh. She was in her fifth month of pregnancy. The other sister was in Delhi and was eight months pregnant. When the elder sister got the news of her brother’s martyrdom, she was deeply shocked and because of this she had a miscarriage. Both the sisters had come to Palampur to bid farewell to the younger brother. The family used to call Vikram-Vishal Luv-Kush. Vishal Batra said in a media interview that Vikram came home in March 1999 after completing commando training. He was working in a private company in Delhi. He went to Delhi’s Nizamuddin station to pick up Vikram and met his commando comrades here. Seeing his brother’s shaven head and lean slender body, he inquired about his health. To which Vikram replied that he had become a man during the training. On June 16, the Captain wrote a letter to his brother Vishal of Dras sector saying, “Dear Kushu, take care of your parents… Anything can happen here…!”
