UP Election Result: Due to the farmers’ agitation in western UP, there was talk of displeasure of the Jat fraternity with the BJP. From Jats to Muslims, there was anger against the BJP and in many villages there was fierce opposition from its leaders. Apart from this, in eastern Uttar Pradesh too, after the OBC leaders like Swami Prasad Maurya, Dara Singh Chauhan broke away from the BJP, an attempt was made to make equations on the basis of caste. Not only this, the supporters of OP Rajbhar along with SP were quite vocal. On the one hand, RLD supporters were vehemently opposing the BJP in West UP, while Rajbhar had given the slogan of ‘Khadeda Hobe’ in East UP.
The supporters of SP and its allies were so vocal that it was believed that the BJP would suffer a big loss. But the election results were quite the opposite and won a lot more seats than the majority and even crossed the 2017 figure in vote percentage. What was the reason for this? Political experts believe that the reason for this is the peaceful polarization. In fact, the louder talk of Jat Muslim unity in western UP, the BJP and the RLD benefited more than the SP and RLD.
Quietly counter polarization against polarization
The effect of that campaign was that in areas where there was no Jat and Muslim population, there was a huge mobilization of other castes in favor of the BJP. Its hallmark is the results of districts like Ghaziabad, Gautam Budh Nagar, Agra, Mathura. Not only this, a part of the Jat fraternity has also come to the BJP’s court on the issue of law and order. The polarized voters were not as vocal in favor of BJP, but voted internally. Apart from this, if we talk about eastern Uttar Pradesh, the results show that even though the SP was confident that it would get the benefit of caste mobilization by taking leaders like Swami Prasad Maurya, Dara Singh Chauhan in the party and forming an alliance with Rajbhar.
PM’s image, the effect of welfare schemes is visible
But when the results came, it did not show that. In fact, a large part of the non-Jatav Dalit votes and a part of the non-Yadav OBC votes have been shown to be going in favor of the BJP as before. In this, all the welfare schemes including PM Awas Yojana, free ration are being considered a big contribution. This voter class may not have been that vocal, but went to the booths and came by voting in favor of BJP. Another aspect is that the image of PM Narendra Modi is still to be maintained as before and the effect of his plans is visible.
The issue of women’s security led to farmers’ agitation, cut unemployment
Bulldozers have emerged as a symbol of the new concept of good governance in UP in the last 5 years under the Yogi government. From west to eastern UP, issues ranging from farmers’ agitation to unemployment were raised by the opposition, but the BJP was constantly reminding them of the misgovernance during the SP’s government. The BJP took the lead in the campaign armed with advertisements related to women’s safety and its effect was visible on the ground as well.
