Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is facing a no-confidence motion in Pakistan, has been warned by the legal wing not to share confidential information with the Foreign Office. The legal wing told Imran Khan that doing so could lead to serious consequences like lifelong disqualification.
According to the report of The Express Tribune, Imran Khan had sought legal advice from the legal wing regarding the secret information of the Foreign Office. Imran Khan has claimed that a foreign country sent a threatening message through the ambassador of Pakistan. However, the legal wing has warned Imran Khan against sharing diplomatic intelligence falling under the purview of the Official Secrets Act, 1923.
The media outlet quoted sources as saying that according to which neither the sender can share it with anyone nor the receiver (PM) can make it public. Furthermore, if the prime minister shares a diplomatic cipher, it would be considered a breach of his oath, after which he could be disqualified for life under Article 62(1)(f) of the country’s constitution.
The legal wing’s advice came at a time when Imran Khan on Thursday reiterated his claims of foreign conspiracy in the country, saying a foreign nation was trying to oust him over independent foreign policy choices made by him. Addressing the people of Pakistan before the no-confidence motion, Imran Khan had claimed that one foreign country has sent a message that Imran Khan needs to be removed, otherwise the country will have to face dire consequences.
