Indian startup companies are now rapidly preparing defense technologies imported from abroad. According to a report by the Ministry of Defense, during the last one year, 14 such important defense technologies have been successful in India, which till now were being imported from abroad. Due to the clearing of the way for their manufacture in the country itself, the compulsion to import them has ended.
Defense ministry sources said that bridge window glass is one of these technologies. It used to be imported from Spain’s St. Gobain Company, but a Jaipur based startup M/s Jeet & Jeet has started its development and manufacturing. Similarly, MCD glands were being imported from Roxtack of Sweden, which has been started by M/s Valmax, Faridabad. Similarly, CKDs from a German company have been prepared by Larsen & Toubro Bangalore and Ordnance Factory DRDE Gwalior. The Mumbai based company M/s James Walker has developed two technologies imported from France.
In-country Manufacture of Battery Loading Trolley
The air-conditioning plant used in submarines was being imported from M/s Sunori France, which has been developed by Shree Refrigeration at Karad. Similarly, the battery loading trolley used in submarines is also a widely used device. It used to be imported from M/s Naval Group France, which is now being manufactured by Hyderabad based startup company SEC Industries.
Pune-based company starts manufacturing remote control valves
According to the ministry, the remote control valves were being imported from UK based company Thampasan, whose manufacturing has been started by Pune based company M/s Delval. Ventilation valves were also being imported from UK, which is being manufactured by M/s Chamunda Valves, an Ahmedabad based company.
India will become self-reliant in defense sector
The ministry said that due to indigenous manufacturing of these technologies, their names are expected to come down by 40-60 per cent. Secondly, it will save huge amount of foreign exchange every year. Also employment will be created. India will become self-reliant in the defense sector due to the manufacture of defense technologies in the country.
India among top five defense importing countries
The government has so far issued programs for the manufacture of more than 200 major defense technologies and about 26 thousand small parts in the country. After a certain time, there will be a complete ban on their import from abroad. The government will try to become self-reliant in defense material as well as export it. According to a report by the Stockholm Peace Institute, India is among the top five defense importing countries. But, in terms of exports, it is at the 25th position. China, on the other hand, is among the top five importers and exporters.
