A massive fire broke out at a godown containing iron and plastic scrap in Hyderabad’s Bhoiguda in the early hours of Wednesday. At least 11 workers were burnt alive in this heart-wrenching incident. Let us tell you that 11 bodies have been recovered by the fire department officials so far and it is believed that all of them are migrant laborers from Bihar.
According to a Musheerabad police official, the fire broke out around 4 am when about 13 workers were sleeping in the upper floor of the godown at IDH Colony in the densely populated Bhoiguda area of the residential colony near Secunderad railway station.
He said, “Preliminary investigation has revealed that the fire may have started due to short circuit. Further investigation is on.”
As the fire engulfed the entire godown, the local people immediately informed the police. After this the police reached the spot with fire tenders. Eight fire tenders were pressed into service and the fire was brought under control by around 7 am.
Police said, “We have recovered 11 bodies so far. They are all completely burnt out in an unknown condition. Another person has got burns. He was immediately taken to Gandhi Hospital, where his condition is said to be critical.
Minister of State for Animal Husbandry Talasani Srinivas Yadav visited the spot and inquired about the incident. Terming the incident as unfortunate, he said that the government would extend all possible help to the families of the deceased.
