Clerics in Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Deoband have launched a nationwide campaign against loud music and use of firecrackers during wedding ceremonies
Saharanpur (UP), March 28 (IANS)| Clerics in Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Deoband have launched a nationwide campaign against the use of crackers and loud music during wedding ceremonies. He has said that he will not conduct ‘nikah’ in such functions. It is worth mentioning that a few days ago, at a wedding ceremony in Shamli district, the groom was dancing on the car to the tunes of a DJ. There was no second thought after that. Maulvi Sahib got angry and he refused to teach ‘Nikah’.
Qari Ishaq Gora, a well-known cleric from Deoband, said, “Ulemas (clerics) are being told not to teach ‘nikah’ in such marriages. We are also against dowry and clerics will not conduct such marriages where Dowry is demanded.”
The decision to boycott such marriages was taken at a meeting of clerics in Muzaffarnagar. The clerics also asked people to avoid using loud music and firecrackers. Maulana Mufti Asrarul Haq, who called the meeting, said, “Every cleric has welcomed the decision. The prominent people of the area also agree with us.”
