Maharashtra minister and Nationalist Congress Party leader Nawab Malik has challenged the Bombay High Court order dismissing an interim petition seeking his immediate release in a money laundering case. In the petition prepared by advocate Ankur Chawla, Malik has challenged the March 15 order of the division bench of the High Court. The Special Leave Petition (SLP) has been filed through advocate VD Khanna.
The Bombay High Court, while dismissing a plea seeking immediate release of Malik, said that since the special PMLA court’s order to remand him in custody is not in his favour, it does not make the order illegal or wrong. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had arrested Malik on February 23 this year under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in connection with a property deal allegedly involving the aides of fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim.
He is currently in judicial custody. After his arrest, Malik had filed a habeas corpus petition claiming that his arrest and subsequent remand by the ED was illegal.
