Will Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar go to Rajya Sabha? In fact, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of the coalition government with the BJP in the state says that he would like to go to the Rajya Sabha someday.
If Nitish goes to Rajya Sabha, he will match the other two veteran leaders of Bihar i.e. Lalu Prasad Yadav and Sushil Kumar Modi. Both these leaders have been members of all the houses of Parliament and Legislative Assembly.
On Wednesday morning, Nitish Kumar told reporters at his office in the Bihar Assembly that he wanted to become a member of the Rajya Sabha at any time, NDTV reported. Till now he has been a member of Bihar Legislative Assembly, Legislative Council and Lok Sabha.
The remarks made in an informal conversation with journalists sparked great speculation. There is speculation that Nitish Kumar, the Chief Minister of Bihar for 16 years, is keen on a new role. There are even discussions that he can be made the Vice President. The post of Vice President is going to fall vacant in the next few days.
On Wednesday, Nitish Kumar was asked whether he was in the race to contest the MP election from Nalanda. To this he said, “Not at all.” He is visiting the abolished Barh Lok Sabha constituency, where he had won five times. Major parts of the flood are now in Nalanda.
But when asked if he would like to become a member of the Rajya Sabha, he said: “I will not mind going to the Rajya Sabha, but for now, I have the responsibilities of the chief minister. I have been the chief minister for more than 16 years, So I don’t know…”
Nitish Kumar’s wish is being interpreted differently in political circles. A section of Bihar NDA (BJP-led National Democratic Alliance) leaders believe that either they have been briefed about a prestigious responsibility in Delhi or they have given the BJP leadership an idea that they are ready to consider. Huh.
Nitish won the 2020 Bihar election for the second time in a row, but with a much lower position in the BJP-led alliance, his Janata Dal United won fewer seats than ally BJP and finished third overall. In the past two years, the partnership with the BJP has been strained.
