There is no factionalism in the politics of Rajasthan. From Bhairon Singh Shekhawat to Hardev Joshi had to face factionalism. The ongoing feud between CM Gehlot and Sachin Pilot in the state is well known. There were attempts to overthrow the Shekhawat government in Rajasthan in 1996. Shekhawat had gone to America for heart treatment. Rebellion broke out from behind. Bhanwarlal Sharma, who won the election on Janata Dal ticket, had attempted a coup. Sharma had made preparations to topple the government along with Minister of State Shashi Dutta, but there was opposition to toppling the government in the state’s main opposition party Congress itself. The Shekhawat government was saved from collapse by the master stroke of late Pandit Navalkishore Sharma, senior Congress leader and the Governor of Gujarat.
Shekhawat had told Navalkishore Sharma – Pandit of the house
Navalkishore Sharma openly opposed the toppling of the Shekhawat government. The then Congress President Ashok Gehlot was also not in favor of forming the Congress government by toppling the Shekhawat government. After returning from America, Navalkishore Sharma reached home to inquire from Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, when Shekhawat had said – the government was saved because of the Panditji of the house. The friendship of Bhairon Singh Shekhawat and senior Congress leader Pandit Navalkishore Sharma has been discussed in the political corridors. Navalkishore Sharma was the Governor of Gujarat when PM Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat. PM Modi had great respect for Navalkishore Sharma. About 5 years ago, PM Modi also talked to Sharma’s son Brajkishore Sharma and wanted to know about his condition.
Help was taken from former Haryana CM Bhajan Lal
It is alleged that Bhanralal Sharma took help from former Haryana CM Bhajan Lal to topple the Shekhawat government. Bhajanlal Ayaram was considered the political mastermind of Gayaram. The matter of toppling the government reached Shekhawat’s son-in-law Narpat Singh Rajvi. Rajvi told this to CM Bhairon Singh Shekhawat. After this Shekhawat returned to Jaipur without undergoing an operation. After Shekhawat’s return, the MLAs and ministers were taken to Chaukhi Dhani and stayed. After this Shekhawat proved his majority in the assembly. CM Gehlot had revealed during the pilot camp rebellion last year that Bhanwarlal Sharma had approached him to topple the Shekhawat government. But he refused. During the revolt of Pilot Camp against Gehlot government, MLA Bhanwar Lal Sharma supported Sachin Pilot. But later Bhanwarlal Sharma switched sides and came in support of CM Gehlot.
