Congress G-23 Leaders: After the crushing defeat of Congress in 5 states including UP, the disgruntled camp of the party called G-23 is very active. On Wednesday, a meeting of 18 leaders was held at the house of senior leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, in which some people are part of G-23, while many more new leaders were also involved. It was being said about the meeting that some resolutions may be passed with the Congress demanding major changes, but nothing like this has happened. Leaders have called for collective and inclusive leadership. No demand was made in the meeting regarding the appointment of a non-Gandhi Congress president or organization elections.
However, these leaders have suggested to the party that the Congress should forge alliances with those parties which agree with its ideology. This suggestion has been made especially for the 2024 general elections. These leaders said that the Congress should try not to become isolated among the opposition parties. A total of 6 states leaders were involved in this meeting. Apart from Kapil Sibal, who directly attacked the Gandhi family, Anand Sharma and Prithviraj Chavan were also part of it. All these leaders have been part of the G-23 group, which had written to Sonia Gandhi two years ago demanding changes.
Many new leaders including Hooda, Raj Babbar, Iyer also became part of G-23
Not only this, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Raj Babbar, Shankar Singh Vaghela and Mani Shankar Aiyar were also present in this meeting. All these leaders were not part of G-23 earlier. Interestingly, Kerala’s top leader and former Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor also attended this meeting. He was one of the leaders to write a letter to Sonia two years ago, but has kept a distance from her since then. The statement said that we believe that the only way for the Congress to move forward is to adopt the model of collective leadership. Apart from this, there should be a process of decision at every level. “To counter the BJP and strengthen the Congress, we demand that the Congress comes on a single platform with like-minded parties,” the statement said. Only then a better option can be given for 2024.
Changed place at the last moment, leaders left from meeting at Kapil Sibal’s house
This group also appeared to avoid going against the Gandhi family. This is indicated by the fact that earlier this meeting was scheduled to be held at Kapil Sibal’s house, but in the end the plan changed and all the leaders gathered at Ghulam Nabi Azad’s house. Actually, in an interview given to the Indian Express, Kapil Sibal made a direct attack on the Gandhi family. In such a situation, the meeting at his house was postponed so that the message does not go that this group is going against the Gandhi family.
