The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has taken action against the construction company for irregularities in the construction work of Dwarka Expressway connecting Delhi to Haryana. NHAI has imposed a fine of Rs 6.67 crore on construction agency Larsen & Toubro (L&T).
The amount of fine will have to be deposited by the construction agency within seven days from the date of issue of the notice. The company has also been barred from participating in any tender process involving NHAI for the next three months.
On March 28 last year, during the construction of the railway overbridge connected to the expressway, the spans (guarders) inserted to build the bridge between pillar numbers 107-108 and 108-109 had collapsed. After this incident, an expert inquiry committee was constituted on the instructions of the Union Road and Transport Ministry.
The committee found that the construction agency did not follow the prescribed norms at the time of construction of ROB. The set standards of quality and design were compromised, leading to the collapse of both the spans. This is a complete violation of the terms and conditions of the tender.
