Former Union Minister Sharad Yadav has announced the merger of his party Loktantrik Janata Dal with Lalu Yadav’s party Rashtriya Janata Dal. Sharad Yadav has said that his party will be merged with RJD on March 20. According to Sharad Yadav, he is taking these steps as an attempt to strengthen the Janata Parivar. It is being said that Sharad Yadav also wants to merge his party due to ill health.
Loktantrik Janata Dal could never show its influence since its separation from Nitish Kumar. The merger of the Loktantrik Janata Dal with the Rashtriya Janata Dal is also being seen as a break in the political careers of Sharad Yadav and Lalu Yadav.
It is worth mentioning that after being named in the fodder scam, Lalu Yadav left the Janata Dal in 1997 and formed his own party. The reason behind this was that questions were being raised on Lalu Yadav within the party regarding the fodder scam because he was the main accused in this scam. At that time Sharad Yadav was considered to be the opponent of Lalu Yadav. In 2005, Sharad Yadav also supported Nitish Kumar to end Lalu Yadav’s 15-year rule in Bihar.
On the question of merger of his party, Sharad Yadav said that the merger of the Janata Party is the result of his efforts to bring the Janata Parivar together. Today it was necessary to do this in view of the political situation of the country.’ Sharad Yadav also said that the BJP government has completely failed and the people of the country are looking for a strong opposition.
Sharad Yav said that in 1989 alone 143 MPs were from Janata Dal. Later gradually the party went on forgetting the agenda of social justice. Today is the time to revive him. Sharad Yadav’s daughter had contested the Bihar assembly elections in 2020 on an RJD ticket but she lost.
