To overcome the lack of blood in the world, efforts are being made by scientists to make blood, but so far no success has been achieved in this. According to an estimate of the World Health Organization, against the requirement of 20 million units of blood in the country, only 8 million units of blood are available. Every two seconds some person in the country needs blood. However, due to people not joining the trend of donating blood, thousands of people lose their lives every year due to illness or accidental tales of not getting blood. National Voluntary Blood Donor Day is celebrated every year on 1 October to create awareness among people about the trend of blood donation. Talking about Surat, there is awareness among people about the tendency of donating blood. About 31 thousand units of blood are collected every year at Surat Blood Donation Center. In which 50 to 50 percent of the blood donors are donating blood in three months. This year also, National Voluntary Blood Donor Day will be celebrated with the formula to make people aware of Give Blood and Keep the World Beating.
Nitesh Mehta of Surat Blood Donation Center and Research Center told that youth and women should donate blood voluntarily every three months so that the need of blood is met regularly. Messages regarding voluntary blood donation awareness in schools should be in the curriculum of the students. So that students can get inspiration to donate blood and encourage others. So far in 2020-21, 19131 units of blood have been collected through 265 camps.
