Three terrorists escaped from police custody from Kanchanpur sub-jail in Tripura. All three were accused in the sensational Liton Das murder case. The prisoners first overpowered the on-duty police and jail police personnel and then managed to escape. North Tripura Additional Superintendent of Police Jacob Darlong said an investigation has been initiated into the matter. “It is true that they have escaped from police custody. An investigation is going on in this regard. Police are raiding possible locations to trace them at the earliest,” he said.
Liton Das was abducted at gunpoint from his residence. Months later, his body was retrieved from the dense forests on the Mizoram-Tripura border. Police sources said, “The accused were produced in the North Tripura district court today in connection with the murder case. After the court proceedings, the police took them back to the Kanchanpur sub-jail. While the police were busy opening the main gate of the jail Then the accused attacked them. After that they managed to dodge the police personnel and fled.”
The absconding prisoners have been identified as Jibanriang, Chanmoni Reang and Lafanga Reang. Additional SP Jacob Darlong also said that an inquiry panel would be formed to probe. During this it will be seen that there is no negligence of any kind. Action will also be taken against the culprits in case of negligence.
