In the seventh and final phase of Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, 54 seats in nine districts of the state will go to polls on Monday, March 7. All its preparations have been completed. These districts are Azamgarh, Mau, Jaunpur, Ghazipur, Chandauli, Varanasi, Mirzapur, Bhadohi and Sonbhadra.
In this phase, three ministers of the state government, State Tourism and Culture Minister Dr. Neelkanth Tiwari from Varanasi South assembly seat, Ravindra Jaiswal, Stamp and Registration Minister from Varanasi North, Divyang Welfare and Backward Classes Welfare Minister Anil Rajbhar from Varanasi’s Shivpur seat. The fate has to be decided.
Apart from these, Bharatiya Suheldev Samaj Party President Om Prakash Rajbhar from Ghazipur’s Zahurabad seat, Abbas Ansari, son of Mafia Mukhtar Ansari from Mau Sadar, JD(U) candidate Dhananjay Singh from Malhani in Jaunpur, Ajay Mishra, jailed MLA from Gyanpur and Pindra of Varanasi. Congress’s famous leader Ajay Rai is the main candidate from the seat.
State Chief Electoral Officer Ajay Kumar Shukla said that out of these 54 assembly seats, three seats Chakia Su. of Chandauli district, Robertsganj of Sonbhadra and Duddhi seat of the same district will start polling from 7 am in the evening. It will last till four o’clock. The areas associated with these three seats are considered to be Naxal-affected. In the remaining 51 seats, voting will be held from 7 am to 6 pm.
He said that the Election Commission has made elaborate arrangements and security arrangements for fair, safe and peaceful elections. In view of COVID-19, arrangements have been made for thermal scanner, hand sanitizer, gloves, facemask, face shield, PPE kit, soap, water etc. at polling booths on polling day. Voter information slips have been distributed to all the electors by the Commission through the District Election Officer, through which they will be able to know about their current polling place and serial number. Apart from this, voters can also get information about their polling booths through the Voter Helpline App, the website of the Election Commission of India.
During the voting period, all the BLOs have been instructed that they will be present at the helpdesk along with the voter list and help the coming voters. Wheel chairs and volunteers have been arranged at different places for the differently-abled voters, who will be available to help such voters. Ramps, toilets and drinking water facilities have been ensured at all polling booths.
