US President Joe Biden has expressed his intention to nominate Indian-origin political activist Shefali Razdan Duggal as his ambassador to the Netherlands. The White House gave this information. 50-year-old Shefali, an overseas Indian, is originally from Kashmir in India. She grew up in Cincinnati, Chicago, New York, and Boston.

On Friday, the White House gave information about Shefali along with the announcement of appointments to several other key administrative and diplomatic posts. The White House said that Shefali, a mother of two, is a veteran political activist, women’s rights advocate and human rights campaigner. She has previously been appointed by the President to the Council of Holocaust Memorial Museums and serves as Western Region Advisor.
Shefali is one of the most powerful women in California
Shefali is a member of the San Francisco Committee on Human Rights Watch, a member of the Wake Forest University Leadership and Character Council and on the national board of directors for Emily’s List. He has an MA in Political Communication from New York University and has also studied Mass Communication at the University of Miami. Shefali has been the recipient of several civic awards, including the Western Regional Leadership Award by the US Holocaust Memorial Museum, Community Hero by the California State Assembly, and being honored by the National Diversity Council as one of California’s Most Powerful Women.
Shefali was involved in Obama’s election campaign
The White House said she served as the women’s national co-chair for Biden and the deputy national finance chair on the Democratic National Committee. Shefali was active in former President Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign and was involved in Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign, where she was a member of the Northern California Steering Committee for Hillary’s campaign and the Hillary Committee for Women.
