A 72-year-old man in Thailand recently cremated his wife after living with her dead body for 21 years. According to reports, a man named Charan Janavachkal bid farewell on April 30, 21 years after the death of his wife. A video shared on Facebook shows Janvachkal assisting Bangkok Foundation employees in carrying his wife’s coffin outside their home in Bangkok’s Bang Khen district. He kept his wife’s body near him in a small room where he slept and talked to her as if she were still alive.
In the video, the man can be heard telling about his wife that you are just going for a small work and you will be back home again. It won’t be long, I promise. According to reports, charity workers have pulled out a rotting coffin from a dirty place littered with plastic bags and other garbage. No legal action has been taken against the man as he had already registered his wife’s death to the authorities. He died of the disease in 2001.
A Bangkok Foundation worker, who had earlier visited a senior citizen to help him recover from a motorcycle accident, was not aware of the incident as he had not seen the coffin in the house. However, later, Janavachkal himself reached out to the foundation to ask for help in the crematorium as he feared that his dead wife would not get a proper farewell after his death.
It is being told that this man, who lives with the dead body of his wife, has many degrees. But there was no electricity in his house and it is said that his condition is bad. The 72-year-old revealed that he lived with his wife and two sons, however, his sons decided to move out as they were not happy with their father’s decision to keep the body in the house. Janvachalak graduated from Pharmacy at Chulalongkorn University. He has served as a medic in the Royal Thai Army and his wife has also served in the Ministry of Public Health.
