At least 72 people were killed and more than 130 people were injured in heavy monsoon rains and floods related to ten days in Pakistan. The National Disaster Management Authority and local authorities gave this information on Monday.
The deaths have occurred mainly from June 26 in the provinces of Pakistan’s northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, East Punjab, Southern Sindh and South-Western Balochistan.
Many parts of Pakistan have been receiving heavy rains since 26 June. Rivers are in spate due to rain and flood -like conditions have been created in many places. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan have suffered the most. Many houses have collapsed in these areas, roads have broken and the fields are flooded.
Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has appealed to the people to be vigilant. Officers are placed on high alert. The NDMA has advised tourists not to go to flood affected areas, especially. The agency has said that the Meteorological Department has warned of further rain, which can fill the roads and suddenly flood.
Let me tell you that a big accident took place in Pakistan last month, when 17 people of the same family were swept away in the river in Swat area of North West. 4 of these were rescued, but the bodies of the remaining 13 people were later recovered. The video of this incident went viral on social media, in which the family members were seen pleading for help stuck on the roof. On this, there was anger among the people about the negligence of the administration.
