OpenAI will open its first office in India this year, Founder Sam Altman will visit India next month

OpenAI said on Friday that it would set up its first Indian office in New Delhi later this year, as its high-profile founder Sam Altman announced his plan to visit India next month.

In a post on X, Altman said that adopting AI in India has been surprising and the company is excited to invest more here.

The post company has come within a few hours of the announcement of the post company to set up its first Indian office in New Delhi later this year, which is one of the second largest and fastest growing markets after the United States for ChatjPT.

OpenAI said in a statement on its expansion outline in India on Friday that it had officially set up a unit in the country and started appointing a dedicated local team.

Altman wrote, “We are opening our first office in India later this year! And I am eager to come next month.”

In its post, Altman also said, “It has been amazing to adopt AI in India – the number of chat GPT users has increased 4 times last year and we are excited to invest even more in India!”

According to OpenAI, the establishment of an office in India, its support for the India-AI mission and its commitment to partner with the government for the construction of artificial intelligence (AI) for India.

It states that this step will help Openal to provide better service to its users, including millions of students, teachers, professionals and developers, who use its equipment to learn, be more creative and solve problems for themselves and others.

According to the company, this expansion underlines India’s global leadership in AI, its rich ecosystem and the increasing demand for advanced equipment of openAIs between people, developers and businesses across the country.

The data cited by OpenAI has shown that India is the leading country to adopt AI.

The number of weekly active users of ChatGPT in India has increased by more than four times in the last one year. This country is also one of the top five developers markets in the world on openal platforms.

India has the highest number of students worldwide on ChatjPT.

A statement issued by the company quoted Altman as saying, “The level of enthusiasm and opportunity for AI in India is unreliable. India has all the elements to become a global AI leader, amazing technical talent, world -class developer ecosystem and strong government support through India AI Mission.”

He said, “Opening our first office and building a local team, making advanced artificial intelligence more accessible throughout the country and our commitment to create artificial intelligence with India and India is an important first step.”

The local team will also focus on strengthening relations with local partners, governments, businesses, developers and educational institutions.

The company said, “Through this local appearance, OpenAI is committed to listen carefully to users, customers and partners across India and to build especially for India, which are designed to make advanced AI more affordable and accessible for people across the country.”

Friday’s news came after recent announcements of developed initiatives for the Indian market, including ChatjPT Go, OpenAI Academy, Advanced Indic Language Support etc.

A few days ago, OpenAI announced the ChatGPT Go, a new subscription plan priced at Rs 399 per month, including the increased message limit, image generation and file upload facility for users in India.

The company also announced that all chat GPT subscriptions could be paid through UPI, which would make it easier for users across India.
