Army personnel engaged in rescue
The Indian Army has rescued four people alive four days after the landslide in Wayanad, Kerala. These include two women and two men. These people were trapped in Padavetti Kunnu. One of these women is having difficulty walking. The woman is being treated. On Friday, the fourth day of the landslide, 40 teams of rescue workers started the search and rescue operation amid rain and adverse conditions and rescued four people.
The Indian Army said that the operation was carried out with precision and caution to ensure the safety of all people. Coordination was done in evacuating the injured and light helicopters (ALH) were used to facilitate the rescue operation. Due to the speed of the operation, people trapped under the debris could be evacuated on time.
Rescue work accelerated due to construction of bridge
Officials said that the completion of the construction of a 190-foot long ‘Bailey Bridge’ has speeded up the rescue operation. Through this bridge, heavy machines including excavators and ambulances will be able to reach Mundakkai and Choorlamala. 40 teams of rescue workers will search for victims in six zones of the landslide-affected areas – Attamala and Aranmala, Mundakkai, Punchirimattam, Vellarimala Village, GVHSS Vellarimala. The team of rescue workers will include personnel from the Army, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), DSG, Coast Guard, Navy and MEG as well as three local people and a forest department employee.
Search will also be done in Chaliyar river
According to officials, apart from this, victims will also be searched in the Chaliyar river. He said that policemen from eight police stations located in the 40 km area of Chaliyar along with local swimming forces will search for the bodies which may have been washed away or are stranded on the river bank. According to the rescue plan, Coast Guard, Navy and Forest Department personnel will jointly conduct search operations on the river banks and areas where the bodies are suspected to be stranded. Revenue Minister K. Rajan had said a day earlier that drone-based radar from Delhi will be brought to Wayanad on Saturday to detect the bodies buried in the debris. (Input- ANI/PTI language)
