Palghar. After being arrested in a chain snatching case in Maharashtra, a case has been registered against two miscreants of an interstate gang under the Maharashtra Organized Crime Control Act (MCOCA). Officials gave this information on Sunday. People were quite surprised after the real reason behind this case came to light. MCOCA law is implemented to prevent serious and organized crimes. But when MCOCA was applied on the accused involved in chain snatching, people were quite surprised.
Police officials said that on June 3, a 42-year-old woman, a resident of Tembhipara in Bhandup area of Mumbai, was returning from a hospital in Nallasopara after meeting a patient, when some unidentified miscreants on a motorcycle snatched her mangalsutra and fled from the spot.
The Nallasopara police registered an FIR in connection with the incident under sections 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery), 392 (robbery) and 34 of the Indian Penal Code, a police release said. It said the investigating team arrested two men aged 36 and 38 from Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh on July 14 based on various leads, including CCTV footage, intelligence inputs and technical information.
