New Delhi. The Indian hockey team won 4-2 in a shootout in a thrilling match against England. The score was tied at 1-1 till full time, but India entered the semi-finals thanks to PR Sreejesh’s brilliant performance in the shootout. This is the second consecutive time that India has made it to the semi-finals of hockey at the Olympics. Earlier in the Tokyo Olympics 2020, India reached the semi-finals and won the bronze medal. This time too, medal expectations from Team India have increased.
The match was goalless in the first quarter
Both India and England played strongly in the first quarter and tried to score goals many times, but neither team was successful. In the first quarter, PR Sreejesh defended the Indian team by stopping many dangerous shots from England. The Indian team also got penalty corners, but they could not convert them into goals. Thus the first quarter ended without any goal.

Harmanpreet Singh scored the goal
In the second quarter, the Indian hockey team played aggressively and created many chances to score goals. In the same quarter, Indian player Amit Rohidas was shown a red card, due to which the Indian team had to play the rest of the match with 10 players. Captain Harmanpreet Singh scored a goal in the 22nd minute to give India the lead. But after this, England’s Lee Morton scored a goal and brought the match to a 1-1 draw.
PR Sreejesh became the hero
After the score remained 1-1 till the stipulated time, a penalty shootout was held. Captain Harmanpreet Singh, Sukhjeet Singh, Lalit Upadhyay and Rajkumar Pal scored goals for the Indian team. PR Sreejesh played an important role in India’s victory by stopping two shots of England. Sreejesh made a significant contribution in taking Team India to the semi-finals by becoming a strong wall between India and the goal with his excellent performance.
Now the medal hopes
This spectacular victory of the Indian team has confirmed its place in the semi-finals and now the eyes of the whole country are on Team India. After winning the bronze medal in Tokyo Olympics 2020, the expectations of the team for a gold medal have increased even more this time.
