After Air India, IndiGo has also announced cancellation of all flights to Dhaka on August 6 due to the violent protests and violence in Bangladesh on Monday. The protests by students that have been going on since last month against reservation in high government posts took a violent turn on Monday. The airline has taken this decision keeping safety in mind and has told the passengers that we are sorry for this inconvenience. IndiGo has given this information in a post on the social media platform X.
The airline wrote in the post
IndiGo posted on social media platform X Given the ongoing situation in Dhaka, all flights scheduled for tomorrow have unfortunately been cancelled. We understand this may cause considerable inconvenience and disruption to your travel plans and we deeply regret this incident.
Earlier, Air India has cancelled all flights to Dhaka with immediate effect in view of the violent protests in Bangladesh. The airline has said that the safety of our passengers and crew is of paramount importance to us.
One flight was diverted to Kolkata
An IndiGo flight from Chennai to Dhaka was diverted to Kolkata following unrest in Bangladesh and closure of the airport in the country’s capital Dhaka on Monday, an official said here. The flight arrived in Kolkata at 4.56 pm and left for Chennai after refueling. According to another official, the Kolkata airport received a message from the Dhaka airport in the afternoon that the airport would remain closed till 10.30 pm.
Sheikh Hasina resigned and left the country
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has left the country amid the continuous violent protests in Bangladesh. Sheikh Hasina’s party Awami League was in power in Bangladesh for the last 15 years. Sheikh Hasina herself was in the prime minister’s chair for so many years.
