Vinesh Phogat disqualified: Performing brilliantly in the Paris Olympics, female wrestler Vinesh Phogat won the semi-final match on Tuesday. Today it seemed that Vinesh would definitely aim for a gold for India, but she was disqualified just before the game. India’s dream of gold was shattered. She was punished for being just 50 grams overweight. This broke the hearts of crores of Indians. But the real question is how did Vinesh Phogat’s weight increase by 50 grams when her weight was stable at 50 kg till a day before. Regarding this issue, we spoke to the Senior Consultant of Sports Medicine at Sir Gangaram Hospital. Dr. Prateek Gupta and Dietitian Mukta Vashisht talked to.
Urine output may decrease
Dr. Pratik Gupta told that it is very important to maintain weight in wrestling. For this, it has to be kept below a certain standard but it cannot be more than that. This is the reason why players carry a margin of a few grams in their weight. Many reasons can be responsible for Vinesh Phogat’s case. It is possible that she may have done something wrong in eating and drinking or it may be due to biological reasons. If there is more water retention in the body, then urine output may have reduced. In this case, it mostly seems that urine output may have reduced due to which the weight may have increased by 50 grams. Secondly, if the motion has not come properly, then also this can be possible. Dr. Pratik told that if sweating has not come out properly, then this can also increase the weight.
I must have eaten one and a half roti extra
Meanwhile, Mukta Vashisht, Chief Dietician of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, said that in my opinion there can be two possible reasons for this. First, either she would not have done as much physical activity as she was doing earlier. Second, she must have done something wrong in her diet. It is possible that Vinesh Phogat may have cut down a little on the exercise she used to do daily. Due to this, calories would not have been spent and 50 grams of weight would have increased. If she has made a mistake in taking calories, then due to this also 50 grams of weight can increase. Mukta Real said that 50 grams of weight gain means that she must have taken about 100 calories more in her body. Many foods can be responsible for 100 calories. Like if you take an extra bowl of dal, then it can increase 100 calories. On the other hand, if you eat one and a half roti, then it can also make 100 calories. Apart from this, if Vinesh Phogat has taken two spoons of ghee or two spoons of oil extra, then this can also increase her weight by 50 grams. Apart from this, one teaspoon of sugar contains 20 calories. According to this, 5 teaspoons of sugar make 100 calories. That means if Vinesh Phogat had drunk five cups of tea due to stress and had not calculated it, then her weight would have increased by 50 grams. These are all possible reasons. What is the real reason, only her coach or doctor will be able to tell.
