New Delhi. On the Sri Lanka tour, the Indian team has faced defeat in the ODI series after a gap of 27 years. In the three-match series, the host team defeated India 2-0 and won the trophy. Indian captain Rohit Sharma said that India can adopt the same strategy and select different players for slow and turning pitches in the future. He clearly said that now the team selection can be done according to the situation.
Sri Lanka took full advantage of the circumstances and won the series by defeating India by 110 runs in the third and final ODI. This is the first time in the last 27 years that it has been successful in defeating India in an ODI series. He said, “We have to tell the players what we want from them and if we have to select players according to the circumstances, then unfortunately we can do so. We will try to prepare a team that can perform well in all circumstances.”
Rohit said that the batsmen could not perform as courageously as the team wanted from them. Apart from this, the players also did not have a personal plan to deal with the challenge. He said, “When I talk about courage, it does not mean that they did not show courage. You need to show courage continuously. You have to perform with constant courage on challenging pitches and try to play different types of shots. Apart from this, it is also related to personal strategy.
The Indian captain said, “Every player has to understand that this is his strategy and how he has to play it. If the conditions are favorable to your strategy then it is a good thing but if it is not so then what option do you have. Come to the crease and take one or two runs and move the innings forward. It is necessary to do this on a slow pitch.”
