New Delhi. There was a huge uproar in Parliament today over the matter of Vinesh Phogat being disqualified from the Paris Olympics. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge raised the issue of Vinesh in the Rajya Sabha, but Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar objected to it and stopped him. Dhankhar said that this will be discussed later. Then Trinamool Congress MP Derek O’Brien also tried to raise this issue. On this, he started shouting at the Chairman. Other opposition MPs also started sloganeering. Angered by this attitude of the TMC MP, Jagdeep Dhankhar got up from his seat and left from there.

Earlier, the Chairman said that the whole country is sad for Vinesh, but do not politicise it. The opposition wants to raise this issue only for political purposes, while doing so is an insult to the daughter of the country. On this, other members of the Indy alliance including Congress and TMC walked out of the Rajya Sabha. The Chairman said that the government will give Vinesh everything that a medal winner is entitled to, every kind of assistance will be provided to Vinesh.

At the same time, Union Minister and BJP National President JP Nadda surrounded the opposition on this matter and said that this is a question of the country and the whole country stands with Vinesh. It is unfortunate that we are trying to divide this matter into the ruling and opposition. I think the opposition has become topicless and issueless, that is why it is doing politics in the case of Vinesh. The Government of India and the Sports Ministry have made every possible effort in this matter. Keeping emotions limited and working with one’s own discretion is the need of the hour and I hope that the opposition will understand its responsibility.
