New Delhi. The Supreme Court today dismissed a petition seeking postponement of NEET PG Exam 2024 scheduled to be held on August 11. A bench of Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Mishra, headed by Chief Justice (CJI) DY Chandrachud, said that it cannot order the postponement of the exam two days before the exam is to be held. The court said that nowadays people just ask for postponement of the exam.
Senior advocate Sanjay Hegde, appearing for the petitioners, said, the petition has sought rescheduling as one exam is in the morning and one in the afternoon and then it will be made normal. On this, the bench asked how many students have to appear in the exam. Hegde said 2 lakh. On this, the CJI said that 2 lakh students have to appear in the exam and it cannot be postponed due to a petition filed by 50 candidates. If we postpone the exam, 2 lakh students and 4 lakh parents will cry over the weekend. We cannot put the careers of so many candidates at risk just because of these petitioners.
It was said by the petitioner that the candidates are facing difficulties in reaching their exam centers allotted in other cities. The reason given behind this was that the cities where the examination is to be held were decided on 31st July and the exam centers of those cities were to be announced on 8th August. This leaves very little time for the candidates to reach the respective centers for the examination on 11th August, hence the exam should be postponed. It is worth noting that the NEET PG 2024 exam was to be held on 23rd June but it was postponed due to the uproar over the NEET UG exam.
