New Delhi. A big revelation has been made on the death of England cricketer Graham Thorpe. Thorpe’s wife Amanda has claimed that it was not a natural death but a suicide. Amanda has said that Graham Thorpe was suffering from depression and due to this he took his own life. The 55-year-old cricketer died on 5 August.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and Surrey Cricket Club had informed on August 5 that Graham Thorpe had passed away. The former England cricketer played 100 Tests and 82 ODIs. The left-handed batsman also tried his hand at coaching after retirement. Australia’s Ricky Ponting had described Graham Thorpe as the best English batsman of his time.
Graham Thorpe’s wife Amanda told ‘The Times’ that this former cricketer had also tried to commit suicide in May 2022. He was then admitted to the hospital. After the death of Graham Thorpe, his wife Amanda and both daughters Kitty and Emma spoke to former cricketer Mike Atherton. In this conversation, he told for the first time that Graham Thorpe was suffering from depression.
Amanda said, ‘He was always worried about his family. He always felt that his wife and children could live better without him. We are devastated that he ultimately took his own life.’ Let us tell you that Graham Thorpe had two marriages. He divorced his first wife Nicola in 2001. After this, he married Amanda in 2007. Graham Thorpe has two children from both the marriages.
