ICC has announced its special award Player of the Month for the month of July. This time ICC has given this award to an England player in the men’s category. Whereas a Sri Lankan player has been selected for the women’s category. Let us tell you that Sri Lanka’s women’s team recently won the Asia Cup title by defeating the Indian women’s team in the final. After a brilliant performance in the West Indies Test series, England’s fast bowler Gus Atkinson was awarded the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for July on Monday. Sri Lanka’s women’s cricket team captain Chamari Atapattu has been selected as the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for July. She has beaten Smriti Mandhana and Shefali Verma to win this award.
Amazing for England
England’s Atkinson made his debut against West Indies. He got a chance in James Anderson’s farewell match. In which Atkinson made a great start by taking 12 wickets. Due to Atkinson his team was able to win against West Indies. His brilliant performance in this series got him recognition. Due to which he won the award by defeating strong contenders like India’s Washington Sundar and Scotland’s Charlie Castle. It is a big thing for him to win this ICC title after his first Test series.
Quoting the ICC, Atkinson said that it is a real honour to win the ICC Player of the Month award. His Test career has had an incredible start and he never thought he would get so much success in his first series with England. He further said in his statement that he is very grateful to his teammates and the wonderful atmosphere created by Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes.
Sri Lanka’s Atapattu performed brilliantly in the Asia Cup
Sri Lankan captain Chamari Atapattu performed very well during the Asia Cup played in Sri Lanka. During the Asia Cup, she scored consistently for her team as a captain and a batsman. Under her captaincy, the Sri Lankan team won the Asia Cup title for the first time. This was a big achievement for Sri Lankan cricket. In fact, they defeated the 7-time champion team India very easily in the final.
