Supreme Court Orders Sahara Group To Give 2 Crore For Wayanad Landslide Relief Work: Why did the Supreme Court order Sahara Group to give Rs 2 crore for Wayanad landslide relief work?

New Delhi. During the hearing of a case, the Supreme Court directed the Sahara Group to give Rs 2 crore for Wayanad landslide relief work in Kerala. In fact, the matter of delay in possession to home buyers in the housing society being settled by the Sahara Group is pending in the Supreme Court. When the matter was heard in the Supreme Court today, a bench of Justice Hima Kohli and Justice Sandeep Mehta found that earlier in October 2023, the court had directed the Sahara Group companies to give flats to some buyers. During the hearing today, it was noted that despite so much time having passed, the companies failed to comply with the Supreme Court order and the buyers have not yet got possession of the flat, so the apex court imposed a fine of Rs 2 crore on the Sahara Group.

A bench of Justices Hima Kohli and Sandeep Mehta directed the government to pay Rs 2 crore to the Kerala Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to compensate for the losses caused by the recent landslide in Wayanad. For failing to comply with its earlier order, the apex court bench imposed a penalty of Rs 10 lakh on ten Sahara Group companies and an additional penalty of Rs 5 lakh on the top 20 directors of those companies.

Let us tell you that more than 400 people have died in the landslide that occurred in Wayanad on July 30. About 150 people are still reported missing. Rescue operations are still underway by the Army, NDRF and SDRF. Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the landslide-affected areas in Wayanad on Saturday. After this, the PM went to the hospital to inquire about the condition of the people injured in the landslide. The Prime Minister also went to the shelter home built for the disaster-affected people and listened to the people there and consoled them.
