Ganesh Chaturthi
The Kenya cricket team has appointed former Indian cricketer Dodda Ganesh as its coach. He has been given a one-year contract as coach. The Kenyan team has taken this big decision ahead of the Africa qualifiers for the 2026 T20 World Cup. The associate member’s best performance so far was in 2003 when it reached the semi-finals in South Africa with an Indian head coach like Sandeep Patil.
Dodda Ganesh gave information on social media
Former India cricketer Dodda Ganesh has posted on ‘X’. In it, he wrote that it is a privilege to be named the head coach of the Kenya cricket team. Here in a video shared by the media, Ganesh can be seen talking to senior cricket officials of Kenya.
Dodda Ganesh, 51, said he is looking forward to the new role, having played four Tests and one ODI without much success but scoring over 2,000 runs and taking 365 wickets for Karnataka in first-class cricket.
Qualified for T20 World Cup only once
It will be an incredible task to bring back the glory days of Kenyan cricket. Kenya participated in five World Cups between 1996 and 2011. They qualified for the T20 World Cup in 2007. After this, the Kenyan team declined a lot. After 2007, the Kenyan team has not been able to qualify for the T20 World Cup.
They will face Papua New Guinea, Qatar, Denmark and Jersey in the ICC Division 2 Challenge League in September and the T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier in October. The 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup will be held in India and Sri Lanka. Kenya’s first task will be to qualify for it.
