New Delhi: The Election Commission has announced the dates for the assembly elections to be held in Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana today. The Commission had recently visited Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana to take stock of the election preparations. The Election Commission was planning to hold assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir before September 30. This deadline has been set by the Supreme Court. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said in a press conference organized on this occasion, ‘Lok Sabha elections 2024 were the largest electoral process at the world level and voting took place peacefully. Our officers had gone to review the preparations for the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana and there was great enthusiasm among the general public and political people about the elections.’
Elections in Jammu and Kashmir in three phases, in Haryana in one phase
Assembly elections will be held in Jammu and Kashmir in 3 phases. The first phase of elections will be held on 18 September, the second phase on 25 September and the third phase on 1 October. In the first phase, counting of votes in Jammu and Kashmir will be held on 4 October. On the other hand, if we talk about Haryana, elections will be held in only one phase on all the seats here. Voting will be held in Haryana on 1 October and the election results will be declared here on 4 October. In this way, this time the Election Commission will complete the elections in both the states in a little more than 2 weeks.
There are 90 assembly seats in Jammu and Kashmir
Assembly elections will be held in Jammu and Kashmir for the first time after the removal of Article 370. Earlier, the last assembly elections were held in Jammu and Kashmir in the year 2014. After delimitation, the picture of assembly seats has changed. After delimitation in Jammu and Kashmir in May 2022, the number of assembly seats has now increased to 90. There are 43 assembly seats in Jammu and 47 in Kashmir Valley. Earlier in 2014, elections were held on 87 assembly seats. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said that in 2019, 19.19% voting took place in 3 Lok Sabha seats of Kashmir, which was 51.09% in 2024. He said that there are a total of 90 seats in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly for which 87.09 lakh voters will elect their representatives. He said that there will be a total of 11838 polling booths in Jammu and Kashmir and an average of 735 voters will be there at each booth.
There are total 90 assembly seats in Haryana too
The dates for the Haryana assembly elections will also be announced today. Let us tell you that this state also has a total of 90 assembly seats for which the public will elect their representatives. In the last elections, BJP was slightly behind the majority and it formed the government with JJP. A few months ago, there was a change in leadership in Haryana and Nayab Singh Saini became the CM in place of Manohar Lal Khattar. Speaking on Haryana, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said that there are a total of 10 thousand voters in Haryana who are above 100 years of age.
