Baliya: There are many ways to calm the mind around the world, but a unique method in Ayurveda is also considered to be very effective. The “Nasya” method has an important place in Ayurveda in which treatment is done by pouring medicinal oil or other liquids through the nose. It is considered effective not only for nose and sinus problems but also in the treatment of diseases related to brain and mental health. According to Ayurveda, the Nasya method is a powerful way to purify the brain and nervous system, which helps in curing mental disorders, headaches, and memory related problems. Ayurvedacharya explains the process of this method and its benefits in detail.
what is nasya method
Nasya method is one of the five main methods of Panchkarma. Its purpose is to purify the upper part of the body. In this method, medicinal oil, ghee or other liquids are introduced into the body through the nose. The nose is considered a “gate” through which medicines can be delivered to the brain and nervous system. It is said in Ayurveda that “Naasa hi Shirso Dwaram.” That is, the nose is the gateway to our brain.
How does the Nasya method work
1. Nose and brain connection: According to Ayurveda, the nose is directly connected to the brain. Medicinal oils inhaled through the nose reach the parts of the brain that control the nervous system. This can help treat mental disorders, stress and other brain-related problems.
2. Balancing the nervous system: The main purpose of Nasya method is to balance the nervous system. The oils used in it nourish the nerves and keep them healthy. This results in mental peace and clarity.
3. Controlling Vata Dosha: In Ayurveda, there are three doshas (vata, pitta, kapha), whose balance is necessary for a healthy body. Nasya method especially helps in controlling vata dosha, which is the main cause of mental disorders and stress.
Procedure of Nasya method
1. Preparation: Before doing the Nasya method, it is necessary to calm and stabilize the body and mind. For this, the person is made to sit in a comfortable position. The head is tilted slightly backwards so that the oil can easily reach the brain through the nasal passage.
2.Oil selection: Special types of medicinal oils are used for Nasya method. These oils are selected by Ayurvedacharya according to the problem and dosha of the person. Generally, medicinal oils like sesame oil, Anutail or Brahmi Ghrita are used.
3. Adding oil: 2 to 5 drops of oil are put in both the nostrils. After this, the person is asked to breathe slowly and inhale the oil.
4. Relaxation and Massage: After applying the oil, the person is advised to relax for a few minutes. Also, the head and neck are gently massaged so that the oil can easily reach the brain and nervous system.
5.Purification: After inhaling the oil, the person is asked to gently blow out the nose and sinuses. This removes the remaining oil and toxins.
What are the benefits of Nasya method
Nasya method nourishes the brain, thereby improving mental problems like anxiety, depression, stress, and insomnia. This method is also used to increase memory power and improve the ability to concentrate. Nasya method provides relief in migraine, sinusitis, and other types of headaches. Nasya method strengthens the nervous system and treats neurological disorders. Nasya method is also beneficial in respiratory problems like nasal congestion, sinus, and allergies.
Is Nasya method safe?
Dr. Subhash Chandra Yadav (MD), Medical Officer in Charge of Government Ayurvedic Hospital, Nagar Ballia, explains that the Nasya method should be done under the guidance of a trained Ayurvedic doctor. Using the Nasya method incorrectly or without proper guidance can cause problems. If a person has any serious problem related to nose, sinus, or respiratory system, then a doctor should be consulted before adopting this method.
