Protests in the country over Kolkata incident

The rape and murder case of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital has shaken the entire country. The rape and murder are being protested across the country. Doctors across the country are on strike. The Supreme Court has taken suo motu cognizance of the incident. In this case, more than 70 Padma awardee doctors have written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In his letter, he has demanded strict action against the criminals of the Kolkata incident. He has put forward his five demands, which also include the demand to take steps related to the safety of health workers. Among those who wrote the letter to Prime Minister Modi, there are more than 70 names including Dr. Harsh Mahajan, former AIIMS director Dr. Randeep Guleria, former ICMR director general Dr. Balram Bhargava who handled a big responsibility during the Corona period, Director of Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences Dr. SK Sarin.

Supreme Court took suo motu cognizance

The investigation of the rape and murder case of the woman has been handed over to the CBI. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has taken suo motu cognizance of the case. A three-judge bench of the Supreme Court will hear the case. A bench of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala and Manoj Mishra will hear the case on August 20. At the same time, Kolkata Police has imposed prohibitory orders near RG Kar Medical College and Hospital from Sunday 18 August to August 24, under which gathering and meeting of more than 5 people will be banned.

Prohibitory orders have been imposed around the hospital

RG Kar Hospital has become the center of protests after the case of rape and murder of a female doctor came to light. An order said that Kolkata Police has implemented Section 163 (2) of the Indian Civil Security Code (BNS) around the hospital. It said that prohibitory orders have been imposed from the area around the hospital to Shyambazar Five-Point Crossing. According to the order, action can be taken against the person violating the prohibitory order under Section 223 of the Indian Justice Code (BNS), 2023.
