Answer- Any person of any age or gender can donate eyes. Even those who have undergone cataract surgery, wear glasses, have BP or diabetes patients can donate eyes. People with disabilities due to retinal or optic nerve disease can also donate eyes.

Answer- In eye donation, the cornea of the eyes is donated. This is the outer transparent layer of the eye that we can see. The pupil can be seen only through the cornea. Answer- Although eyes should be donated as soon as possible after death, the cornea can be removed within a maximum of 6 hours. For this, a team of doctors goes to the deceased with a special container, removes the cornea and preserves it in a solution in the lab and then it is immediately sent to the cornea bank.
Question: How long should donated eyes be used?
Answer- Donated corneas cannot be kept for a long time. It has to be transplanted to someone within a maximum of 7 days. The sooner the cornea is transplanted, the better the result will be.

Answer- Research is going on regarding retina but currently it is possible to donate and transplant only cornea. However, other parts of the eye are also taken for medical research etc.
