On this day, it is customary to worship Mahadev. It is believed that if Lord Bholenath is worshipped with proper rituals on the day of Pradosh Vrat, then auspicious results are obtained.
According to the Panchang, Bhadrapad month is going on right now and the Pradosh fast falling on Trayodashi Tithi of this month is very special which will be celebrated on Saturday, 31st August. Due to Pradosh falling on Saturday, it is being known as Shani Pradosh, it will be beneficial to worship Lord Shiva, Mother Parvati and Shanidev on this day. What to do and what not to do on Pradosh day-
On the day of Shani Pradosh, after waking up in the morning and taking bath, worship Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati in a proper manner. Anoint the Shivling with milk, curd, honey and ghee. Offer Bel leaves on the Shivling and light a ghee lamp. On Pradosh Vrat, observe a fast without any food or eat fruits throughout the day. Do recite the Pradosh Vrat Katha. On this day, donate food, clothes, money etc. to the poor and needy. Also chant the mantras ‘Om Namah Shivay’ and ‘Om Parvati Namah’. It is believed that doing so showers the blessings of Mahadev and Goddess Parvati.
On the day of Shani Pradosh, one should not consume tamasic things even by mistake. On this day, keep away from meat, fish, eggs, garlic, onion etc., consuming these is considered forbidden. Apart from this, negative thoughts should not be allowed to arise in the mind. One should avoid lying on this day. One should not cause pain and suffering to anyone, doing so is a sin.
