Washington, Aug 31 (IANS) Donald Trump has said that being with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un is a ‘good thing’. Earlier, his Democratic opponent in the US presidential election, Kamala Harris, had said that she was not comfortable with Kim Jong.
During a campaign stop in Pennsylvania on Friday, former US President Trump again spoke about his personal relationship with the North Korean dictator, Yonhap news agency reported.
Only a few months are left for the presidential election. There is a tough competition between Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris.
Trump said, “I have the support of North Korea’s Kim Jong-un. Remember that I am the first person to walk from this (North Korea) country and reach here.”
He said these things in the context of his (Trump’s) visit to the Korean border village of Panmunjom in June 2019. During that time, Trump also crossed the border line into the North for some time.
“We also looked at their nuclear capability. That’s very important. You know, it’s a good thing to be together. It’s not a bad thing,” Trump, the Republican candidate, said.
Kamala Harris, on the other hand, targeted Trump in a speech given in Chicago last Thursday. She said that she does not sympathize with dictators like Trump supporter Kim Jong-un.
He claimed the dictator knows Trump is “easy to influence through flattery and favors.”
The two candidates’ statements reflect different diplomatic approaches to North Korea. Trump’s claims of close ties with Kim have raised the possibility that, if re-elected, he will base diplomacy on personal ties with the North Korean program.
So, Kamala Harris believes in taking along friendly countries and her allies to deal with the North Korean threats.
