Himachal Pradesh weather: Himachal Pradesh has got relief from heavy rains due to weakening of monsoon. Light rain is happening only at some places. There has been no torrential rain anywhere during the last one week. Due to this, there has been no major landslide incident anywhere. So far in the monsoon season, there has been 23 percent less rainfall than normal.
The weather will remain bad till September 7
According to the forecast of Meteorological Center Shimla, the activity of monsoon will increase during the next 48 hours and there will be heavy rainfall at many places. Heavy rainfall has been warned in the plains and mid-mountain areas on September 3. A yellow alert of heavy rainfall with thunder has been issued for 10 out of 12 districts on this day. Heavy rainfall is expected at some places in all the districts except Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur. The weather is expected to remain bad in the entire state till September 7.
Bright sunshine in Shimla
Meanwhile, most parts of the state including the capital Shimla are sunny since Sunday morning. The weather remained clear in most parts yesterday as well. The heat has started increasing due to sunshine in the plain areas Una, Hamirpur and Bilaspur. The maximum temperature of Una is being recorded around 35 degree Celsius. According to the Meteorological Department, 35-35 mm rainfall has been recorded in the tribal areas of Siobagh and Tabo during the last 24 hours.
51 roads closed due to landslides
The widespread rainfall in the early days of August in the state had caused devastation. Hundreds of roads were closed due to landslides at various places. The work of restoring them is still going on. According to the State Emergency Operation Center, vehicular movement was halted on 51 roads till Sunday morning. 18 roads are blocked in Shimla district, 11 in Mandi, 10 in Kangra, nine in Kullu and one each in Una, Sirmaur and Lahaul-Spiti. Apart from this, power supply is affected due to seven transformers in Kinnaur, six in Kullu and three in Chamba district being out of order. Eight water projects in Shimla district have also come to a standstill.
Cloudburst, flood and landslide incidents occurred at 88 places in two months
Monsoon arrived in the state on 27th June. In the two months of monsoon season, incidents of cloudburst, flood and landslide have been reported at 88 places. On the midnight of 31st July, cloudburst caused heavy destruction in Shimla, Kullu and Mandi districts. Floods wiped out Samej village of Shimla district. 36 people of the village went missing. Bodies of 21 of them have been recovered and 15 are still missing.
According to the State Emergency Operations Center, 270 people were killed and 30 are missing in rain-related accidents during the monsoon. Monsoon has caused damage to movable and immovable property worth Rs 1265 crore. During this period, 175 houses were completely destroyed, while 475 houses were partially damaged. 58 shops and 462 cattle sheds were also completely destroyed.
