In this Ganesh festival which lasts for 10 days, the devotees of Lord Ganesha offer him different things as prasad every day. If you offer modaks and laddus to Lord Ganesha every year, then this time try Maharashtra’s famous Puran Poli recipe. Be it a wedding or a festival in Maharashtra, a sweet dish called Puran Poli is definitely made on every auspicious occasion. The tradition of making Puran Poli in Maharashtra on the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi is centuries old. Although Puran Poli is made in many ways. But most of the Maharashtrian people prepare Puran Poli with a mixture of lentils, jaggery, cardamom powder and sugar. Let’s know what is its recipe.
Ingredients for making Puran Poli-
– 1 cup washed Bengal gram lentils
-1 tsp cardamom powder
-grated nutmeg
To make the dough-
-1 tsp salt
-2 tbsp ghee
To prepare the lentil mixture-
To make the lentil mixture, first wash the gram lentils, add water in a pressure cooker and cook till 4 whistles. After this, drain the water from the boiled lentils and mash them coarsely, turn the lentils into a pressure cooker, add sugar to it, mix it well and cook on low flame by adding cardamom powder, grated nutmeg. Cook the lentils on low flame and keep stirring continuously. When the water of the lentils dries up completely, keep the mixture aside to cool.
Method to prepare the dough-
To prepare the dough, first mix flour, salt and ghee in a vessel. After this, add water to this flour as per requirement and knead the dough. Now cover the vessel with a wet cloth and leave it to rest for 30 minutes.
Method of making Puran Poli-
To make Puran Poli, first take a dough ball and roll it in the shape of a roti with the help of dry flour. After this, fill the prepared filling in the Puran and roll it again in the round shape. Now heat the pan and put the Puran Poli on it, apply ghee on both sides and fry it well. Your Puran Poli is ready to be offered to Bappa. While serving it, add more ghee on top.
