Dubai: Yemen’s Houthi rebels have once again created terror in the Red Sea. This time the Houthi rebels have targeted a Panama-flagged oil tanker. The rebels have also allegedly attacked another tanker ship flying the Saudi Arabian flag. Officials have given information about this. The continuous attacks by the Houthi rebels targeting the ship have disrupted the supply of goods worth one thousand billion US dollars, which is sent to the Gaza Strip through the Red Sea every year in view of the Israel-Hamas war. Apart from this, the supply of aid material to conflict-affected Sudan and Yemen has also been disrupted due to these attacks.

Houthi rebels launched a major attack

Houthi rebels had earlier attacked the ‘Sonian’ oil tanker, which is still burning and efforts are being made to save it. ‘Sonian’ had about 1 million barrels of crude oil. The explosions in this tanker due to the attack by Houthi rebels have created the danger of a large-scale oil spill in the Red Sea. The Multinational Joint Maritime Information Center, operated under the supervision of the US Navy, said that Houthi rebels fired two ballistic missiles on the oil tanker ‘Blue Lagoon I’ on Monday, while the third missile fell near the ship. The center said, “All crew members on board the ship are safe. The ship has suffered minor damage and does not require assistance.”

Houthi military spokesman Brigadier General Yahya Sari has claimed responsibility for the attack on the ‘Blue Lagoon I’. The ‘Blue Lagoon I’ was heading south through the Red Sea. It is not told what its destination was. The ship was coming from Russia’s Ust-Luga port on the Baltic Sea and was loaded with Russian cargo. The ‘Blue Lagoon I’ had also visited India in recent months. The US military’s ‘Central Command’, which oversees US operations in West Asia, identified the second ship as the Saudi-flagged oil tanker ‘Amjad’ and blamed the Houthi rebels for the attack. It said that ‘Amjad’ had 2 million barrels of oil. The ‘Central Command’ said that the US military also destroyed two Houthi missile systems on Monday. (AP)
