NMC issued new guidelines for CBME curriculum

The National Medical Commission has issued guidelines for CBME i.e. Competency Based Medical Education in MBBS. MBBS will be taught in all the medical colleges of the country as per the CBME guidelines. Every medical institution will have to strictly follow them. The Undergraduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB) under NMC has prepared these guidelines for MBBS. The new curriculum will start in the first session of the National Exit Test from the academic session 2025-26.

An official notice dated August 31 said that after due deliberations with the Expert Group and in exercise of the powers conferred by the NMC Act, 2019, particularly Sections 10, 24, 25 and 57 of the NMC Under Graduate Medical Education Board Act, the Competency-Based Medical Education Guidelines, 2024 along with CBME Competencies Volume-I, II and III have been published.

In the revised curriculum, the highest importance was given to learner-centric, patient-focused, gender-sensitive, outcome-oriented education. Keeping in view the global trends, through this curriculum, medical graduates have to deal with all the modern challenges of the healthcare sector and connect with global trends. The aim of CBME guidelines is to transform medical education to meet the needs of the healthcare sector in the national and international world.

According to NMC, the emphasis of the new guidelines is on continuity and development of medical education based on the feedback and experience of CBME in the last 5 years since its inception in 2019. It aims to make medical education in line with global trends.
