Director Ranjit seeks anticipatory bail from High Court
After the Justice Hema Committee report, the first names to come up in the allegations of sexual crimes against female actors were actor Siddique and film director Ranjit, after which director Ranjit has approached the Kerala High Court for protection from arrest in the cases registered against him. After actor Siddique, now director Ranjit has also reached the Kerala High Court to avoid arrest. He has filed an anticipatory bail petition saying that all the allegations against him are baseless. The complainant was not selected for any role in the film, so she has done all this out of anger.
Health cited in anticipatory bail
Ranjit Balakrishnan has claimed in his anticipatory bail plea that a conspiracy has been hatched to frame him. Baseless allegations have been leveled against him. So that he is removed from the post of Chairman of Kerala Academy, but after the allegations were leveled, Ranjit resigned from the post of Chairman of Kerala Chalachitra Academy. 60-year-old director Ranjit, who came forward as the first accused in the sexual crime case after the Hema Committee report was made public. He has claimed in the anticipatory bail that he is suffering from many diseases and has recently undergone a liver transplant, so he needs good and proper medical care and attention.
Director Ranjit seeks anticipatory bail
Ranjit has been accused of attempting to molest the actress during discussions for the film ‘Palerimanikyam’ in 2009. The incident took place 15 years ago. He has sought anticipatory bail and assured the court that he will cooperate in the investigation and abide by any bail conditions that may be imposed on him by the court. The case in which Ranjit is seeking protection from arrest is for an offence under Section 354 (assault or use of criminal force to a woman) of the IPC on a complaint by a female actor from West Bengal regarding an incident that took place in 2009. She had alleged that the director had inappropriately touched her with sexual intent after inviting her to act in the film in 2009.
Abhinta Siddiqui pleaded for anticipatory bail
Several FIRs have been filed against several high profile Malayalam film personalities following sexual harassment allegations against several directors and actors following revelations in the Justice K Hema Committee report. The committee was formed by the Kerala government following the 2017 actress assault case and its report revealing cases of harassment and exploitation of women in the Malayalam cinema industry. Following allegations of sexual harassment and exploitation against several actors and directors, the state government on August 25 announced the formation of a seven-member Special Investigation Team to probe them. Siddique, Mukesh, Raju and Prakash have applied for anticipatory bail in the cases against them. Siddique had also resigned from the post of general secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) following the allegations against him.
