Despite the Supreme Court’s order to partially open the Shambhu border, which has been closed for the last six months due to the farmers’ agitation, it will not open yet. In the last hearing, the Supreme Court had asked Punjab and Haryana to partially open the border, but today’s meeting of senior officials of Punjab Police and farmers in Patiala remained inconclusive. Punjab ADGP Law and Order Arpit Shukla, Shaukat Ahmed Parre and Haryana officials were present in the meeting and the issue was discussed but no result came out of the meeting. At the same time, tomorrow i.e. on Thursday, this matter is to be heard in the Supreme Court.
We will not go to Delhi without tractor trolley: Dallewal
In the meeting that lasted for an hour, the farmers clearly said that they have not blocked the road. This road was blocked by the Haryana government and the police. Farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal said that if the Haryana government opens the road, people will benefit and we will also go to Delhi. We will not go to Delhi without tractor trolleys because these tractor trolleys are the homes of the farmers. There are many types of weather like winter, summer. We will also need ration and water in Delhi. In such a situation, it is our compulsion to take the tractor with us but the Haryana Police is saying that you should go to Delhi without vehicles. He told that we have put our side before the administration. The administration has said that a meeting will be called again soon.
Hearing is scheduled in the Supreme Court tomorrow
Due to the closure of Shambhu border connecting Punjab and Haryana, people are facing a lot of problems. The businesses of traders are closed and people are also facing difficulty in commuting. The hearing in the case of Shambhu border was held on 12 August. Then the Supreme Court had ordered to open the border partially. During the hearing, the Supreme Court had made a strong comment that highways are not parking places. The Supreme Court ordered to open one lane of the highway for ambulances, senior citizens, women, students, etc. within a week. For this, apart from the DGPs of Punjab and Haryana, the SPs of Patiala, Mohali and Ambala were asked to take a decision on this by holding a meeting. The next hearing of the case was fixed on 22 August. Also, the Supreme Court had said that if a consensus is reached between the police officers of Punjab and Haryana and the farmers, then there is no need to wait for the date of hearing. But now due to today’s meeting being inconclusive, the hearing in this case is scheduled to be held tomorrow.
