New Delhi. The Enforcement Directorate has taken major action in the case of financial irregularities in RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The ED has started raids in Sankrail area of Howrah and Beleghata area of Kolkata. During this raid, the ED team also knocked at the house of former principal of RG Kar Hospital, Sandeep Ghosh. This action has been started after the Enforcement Directorate filed an ECIR regarding financial irregularities in RG Kar Hospital.
The CBI had arrested
Earlier, the CBI had arrested former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital Dr Sandip Ghosh and three others for their alleged involvement in financial irregularities. The other three arrested include Ghosh’s personal security guard Afsar Ali (44), hospital vendor Biplab Singha (52), and Suman Hazara (46). All of them are accused of irregularities in the supply of materials to the hospital and being involved in corruption.
The former deputy superintendent had complained
Dr Akhtar Ali, former deputy superintendent of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, had filed a complaint in the case. He had alleged that several financial irregularities took place in the hospital during Sandeep Ghosh’s tenure as principal, including smuggling of unclaimed bodies, corruption in the disposal of bio-medical waste, and nepotism in construction tenders. The Kolkata Police was initially investigating the case, but later the CBI took it over following a High Court order.
ED raids
The ED, taking its investigation forward, started raids in Sankrail and Beleghata. Along with this, raids were also conducted at the residence of former principal Sandeep Ghosh, from where many important documents and digital devices have been seized. The ED is investigating the financial transactions and other paper evidence in this entire case so that the entire scam can be exposed.
