The move comes after a number of incidents in which attempts to derail trains were suspected.
In view of the increasing incidents of trains derailing in recent times, Indian Railways has taken a big decision. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav announced that all trains will be equipped with several cameras to monitor the tracks and surrounding areas. The move comes after several incidents in which attempts to derail trains are suspected. The move is aimed at improving passenger safety. According to the Financial Express report, Vaishnav said that cameras will be installed in front, behind and on the sides of the engine and guard coach, as well as on cattle guards and bogies.
Tender for installation of cameras will be issued soon
The railway minister said tenders for installing the cameras will be issued within three months, covering all trains. Apart from the cameras, a central data centre will be set up to collect and review footage from these devices. Vaishnav described the recent derailment attempts as very serious and said the railway administration is coordinating with state police chiefs to increase vigilance on railway tracks. Sources said the focus will also be on strengthening the intelligence network and raising awareness among people to prevent further derailment attempts.
