Prime Minister Narendra Modi will release the first installments of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) for lakhs of beneficiaries in rural areas in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand on September 15. The event will also mark the ‘Griha Pravesh’ of 26 lakh beneficiaries.
PM Modi’s big announcement
Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan informed that the Prime Minister will release installments worth Rs 2,745 crore. Apart from this, PM Modi will also interact with the beneficiaries of PMAY-Gramin (PMAY-G).
First installment to 10 lakh beneficiaries
According to the Rural Development Ministry, 10 lakh beneficiaries will get their first installment in this event to be held in Jharkhand. Also, acceptance letters will also be given to all the targeted beneficiaries for the financial year 2024-25. The program will be attended by a large number of people and lakhs of people will join online.
2 crore new houses by 2030
Minister Chauhan said that the target was to build 2.95 crore houses which will be completed by March 2024. So far 2.65 crore houses have been built and in the coming five years 2 crore new houses will be built, which will cost more than Rs 3.06 lakh crore.

Chouhan informed that the ‘Griha Pravesh’ ceremony of the houses of 26 lakh beneficiaries constructed during the financial years 2023-24 and 2024-25 would also be held on September 15.
The central government gave relief in the rules of PMAY
To ensure that no eligible family is deprived of this scheme, the rules of the scheme have been simplified and amended. Now equipment like motorbikes, fishing boats, refrigerators and landline phones have been excluded. Apart from this, the limit of monthly income of the family has been increased from Rs 10 thousand to Rs 15 thousand. The rules for land ownership have also been simplified.
New standards for building houses
Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin, which started in 2016, the target is to build 2.95 crore houses by March 2024. So far, 4.21 crore houses have been built in the last 10 years. Two crore more houses will be built in the next five years under PMAY-G.
House with basic amenities
Houses built under PMAY are not just shelters but also come with basic amenities like household toilets, LPG connection, electricity connection and NHH tap connection. These facilities are provided in collaboration with other schemes of the central and state governments. It is a comprehensive approach, which reflects the commitment to improve the living standards of the beneficiaries.
