New Delhi. A Delhi court today framed murder charges against Congress leader Jagdish Tytler in the 1984 Sikh riots case that took place after the assassination of former prime minister Indira Gandhi. Apart from murder, the court has also ordered to frame charges against Tytler for inciting riots, forcibly entering a house, promoting enmity between two communities and theft. The next hearing of the case will now be on October 3. Earlier, during the hearing on August 30, the court had admitted that there was sufficient evidence to prosecute Tytler for murder.

The CBI had filed a chargesheet against Jagdish Tytler in this case in May 2023 last year. According to this chargesheet of the CBI, a witness of the riot had alleged that Jagdish Tytler got out of a white Ambassador car in front of Pul Bangash Gurdwara in Delhi on 1 November 1984. After this, he incited the mob and said, kill the Sikhs, they have killed our mother. After this people got angry and they set the gurdwara on fire. Three Sikhs Thakur Singh, Badal Singh and Guru Charan Singh were killed in this violence.
Jagdish Tytler, who was once counted among the top leaders of Congress, was a minister in the Manmohan Singh government in 2004 during the UPA government. However, he had to resign due to protests over this case. Tytler has been given a clean chit by the CBI not once but thrice in the Sikh riots case, but each time the court rejected the clean chit given by the CBI and ordered a fresh investigation. The result of this was that after so many years, murder charges have been framed against Jagdish Tytler.
