Sachin Nag (English: Sachin Nag, born-15 September,, 1920, Banaras; died- 19 August, 1987, Kolkata) was a famous Indian swimmer. When Sachin Nag won the gold medal in 100 meter style swimming in the first Asian Games of 1951 in New Delhi, the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru himself put a gold necklace around his neck. After this, no Indian swimmer has got the honor of winning a gold medal in the Asian Games till date.
Sachin Nag won gold in 100m freestyle at the first Delhi Asian Games besides winning two bronze medals.
Apart from this, he was a member of the water polo team in the 1948 and 1952 Olympics.
Sachin Nag had four goals in the only 7–4 win against Chile at the 1948 London Olympics.
Sachin Nag died in 1987.
Para international swimmer Arjuna Award winner Prashant Karmakar, swimming coach in Gurugram Sports Department, proposed Sachin Nag’s name for the ‘Lifetime Dhyan Chand Award’ in 2019. After this, Sachin Nag was honored with this award in the year 2020.
