Pitru Paksha 2024 is going to start from 18th September. In Hinduism, Shradh Paksha i.e. Pitru Paksha has special religious significance. Starting from the full moon date of Bhadrapada month and continuing till the new moon date of Ashwin month, during this holy period, Shradh and Tarpan are performed according to the rituals for the satisfaction of the souls of our ancestors and forefathers. During this, various types of dishes are prepared and bhog is prepared for the ancestors. Although many types of dishes are made in Pitru Paksha, but Urad Dal Vada is a special dish of Pitru Paksha. Without this, the thali of Pitru Paksha is considered incomplete. So let’s know about the easy recipe to make this special dish.
Ingredients required to make Urad Dal Vada
To make urad dal vada, black skinned urad dal is needed. Apart from this, green chillies, garlic cloves, ginger, curry leaves, whole cumin seeds, whole coriander, turmeric powder, garam masala and salt will be needed to prepare the urad dal mixture. You can use refined or desi ghee to fry the vada.

To make urad dal vada during Pitru Paksha, first soak the black peeled urad dal in water for 4 to 5 hours. After this, wash it well and add green chillies, 6-7 garlic cloves, ginger pieces, curry leaves, whole cumin seeds and whole coriander as per your taste and make a good paste in a mixer jar. Keep in mind that do not use water at all to grind it. When the urad dal is ground well, take it out in a vessel. Now add turmeric powder, garam masala and salt as per taste and mix it well. To fry the vada, put a pan on the gas and heat oil or ghee in it. When the oil is heated well, fry the vada in it. In this way, the special vadas of Pitru Paksha will be ready.
